Edgar Bergen

Edgar John Bergen (born Edgar John Berggren, February 16, 1903 – September 30, 1978) was an American actor, comedian and radio performer, best known for his proficiency in ventriloquism and his characters Charlie McCarthy and Mortimer Snerd. He was the father of actress Candice Bergen.

Alongside acting, Edgar Bergen is also known as a comedian. His screen credits lean toward Comedy and Family.

Edgar Bergen's most notable role to date came in The Muppet Movie (1979), where he played Himself / Charlie McCarthy (voice). He also appeared in Fun and Fancy Free (1947) as Himself / Charlie McCarthy / Mortimer Snerd. Most recently appeared in I Remember Mama (1948) as Mr. Thorkelson.
