All of Us is currently streaming in the US on Philo, and in the UK on Sky Go, and it delivers exactly the kind of comedy that earns a loyal following. Every one of its 4 seasons holds up. With 28 viewer ratings on TMDB, this is not a title flying under the radar. Duane Martin is the obvious draw, but the whole ensemble earns its laughs. Available now on Philo — press play and find out why people keep recommending it.
All of Us is not trying to be everything to everyone, and that focus is exactly what makes it work. All of Us does what great comedies rarely manage — it is actually funny, consistently, across the whole run. Robert James, an entertainment reporter for a local Los Angeles television station, is handsome, smart and thoroughly modern in his thinking. Recently divorced from the somewhat self-absorbed Neesee, the mother of their endearing 6-year-old son, Robert refuses to buy into the old stereotype that being divorced means you can't get along with the ex. The chemistry Duane Martin and LisaRaye McCoy bring to it does a lot of the heavy lifting. 4 seasons (2003–2007) gave the story room most shows never get. What keeps All of Us from feeling disposable is a cast that clearly understands the material better than the format usually demands. It knows exactly what it is, and does not try to be anything else.
If you need a comedy that actually makes you laugh, All of Us is a strong candidate. The tonal similarities to The Honeymooners are real, though All of Us carves out its own identity quickly. Short enough to finish in a weekend, substantial enough to feel satisfying. Duane Martin's comic timing carries it through its weaker moments. The kind of comedy you recommend to someone who claims they do not watch much.
All of Us was cancelled in 2007, created by Will Smith, Jada Pinkett Smith and Betsy Borns — and 4 seasons are available to watch from start to finish.
