Whatever else is competing for your attention this week, PAW Patrol is worth clearing space for. The look of PAW Patrol gets people in the door, but the writing is what keeps them there. Marshall, Rocky, Rubble, Zuma and Skye are doing their best to protect the people of their town. Led by Ryder, a tech-savvy 10-year-old boy, each of them is equipped with special equipment and together they help anyone who finds themselves in trouble. No task is too big for them and no puppy is too small. The series ran for 13 seasons (2013–2026), building a story that gave its audience time to invest properly. The animation style is distinctive enough to be immediately recognisable, but it is the writing underneath that keeps viewers coming back for more. It knows exactly what it is, and does not try to be anything else.

PAW Patrol belongs on any best-of list regardless of format. Viewers who responded to Krypto the Superdog will find a lot to like here too. The 13-season run rewards the patience it asks of you. Visually distinctive and narratively ambitious in ways that hold up regardless of format. Worth watching in order from the beginning.
