Remedy is currently streaming in the US on Amazon Prime Video and fuboTV, and it rewards the patience it asks of you. 2 seasons in, and the quality has not slipped. A 5/10 rating says what the writing already makes obvious: this one works. Enrico Colantoni leads a cast that never overplays its hand. Start it on Amazon Prime Video whenever you need something guaranteed to land.
Remedy arrived without much fanfare and built its audience the hard way — through word of mouth. Remedy trusts its audience to sit with discomfort instead of resolving it too quickly. Griffin Conner, a med-school dropout having left in a haze of disgrace, is forced to return to Bethune General Hospital as its newest orderly and work alongside his family. Enrico Colantoni and Sarah Allen lead a cast that treats the material with real seriousness. It ran for 2 seasons (2014–2015), and the writing holds up across every one of them. The performances in Remedy do a lot of work in the silences between the dialogue. There is real craft here, even in the moments that do not fully land.
For anyone looking for storytelling that takes its characters seriously, Remedy delivers. The tonal similarities to Olive Kitteridge are real, though Remedy carves out its own identity quickly. A contained run means every episode is doing real work. Enrico Colantoni is the centre of it, and it is one of their strongest performances on record. The patience it asks of you early on is paid back with interest.
Remedy was cancelled in 2015, created by Greg Spottiswood — and 2 seasons are available to watch from start to finish.
