Touch is currently streaming in Australia on Disney Plus, and it earns its premise rather than just borrowing genre trappings. Across 2 seasons, the show has had time to find its rhythm and keep it. A 7/10 rating says what the writing already makes obvious: this one works. Watch it for Kiefer Sutherland — the performance elevates material that could easily tip into self-seriousness. There is no real reason to keep putting it off — it is right there on Disney Plus.
Touch arrived without much fanfare and built its audience the hard way — through word of mouth. The world-building is meticulous, but it is the characters who carry Touch through its more ambitious moments. Martin Bohm, a widower and single father, is haunted by an inability to connect to his autistic, mute 11-year-old son, Jake. Their relationship and their lives take an extraordinary turn when he discovers his gifted son has the ability to see things that no one else can and the patterns that connect seemingly unrelated events. The human element stays intact thanks to Kiefer Sutherland and David Mazouz, who anchor every scene. The series ran for 2 seasons (2012–2013), building a story that gave its audience time to invest properly. The rules of Touch's world are consistent enough that the big swings never feel like cheating. It knows exactly what it is, and does not try to be anything else.
Viewers burned by ambitious sci-fi that could not sustain its premise should give Touch a chance. If you have already watched Humans, Touch is a natural next step. Short enough to finish in a weekend, substantial enough to feel satisfying. Kiefer Sutherland grounds the bigger ideas in something human. Once you are in, you will want to talk about it.
Touch was cancelled in 2013, created by Tim Kring — and 2 seasons are available to watch from start to finish.
