Virtua Fighter has the visual identity that makes it immediately recognisable, and the writing to back it up. Akira Yuki has spent years honing his skills under the guidance of his grandfather. Meanwhile, a nefarious robotics scientist, Eva Durix, desires to create the perfect soldier. Eva kidnaps Sarah Bryant, a close acquaintance of Akira and now he must now fight his way to Sarah to save her. Atsuko Tanaka and Kiyoyuki Yanada lead a cast that brings real weight to the material. It aired in 1995–1996.
Animation fans will appreciate the craft, but Virtua Fighter works equally well for viewers who don't typically seek out animated series — fans of Monster Farm will feel at home. The medium is secondary to the quality.
