When Josh enlists Gabi to prepare a romantic meal for him and his girlfriend, the dinner goes awry and Gabi finds herself in a very awkward position. Emily Osment and Jonathan Sadowski lead a cast with the timing to make it work. It ran for 5 seasons (2014–2018), and the writing holds up across every one of them. What keeps Young & Hungry from feeling disposable is a cast that clearly understands the material better than the format usually demands. It knows exactly what it is, and does not try to be anything else.

If you need a comedy that actually makes you laugh, Young & Hungry is a strong candidate. The tonal similarities to The Nanny are real, though Young & Hungry carves out its own identity quickly. It is a manageable watch, easy to fit into a single week. Emily Osment is funny in a way that holds up on rewatch. Put it on when you need something guaranteed to land.
