Japanese television has a knack for doing more with less, and Cowboy Bebop is a prime example. It's currently available in Australia on Netflix and Netflix Standard with Ads, and in the US on Crunchyroll and Crunchyroll Amazon Channel, so there's no reason to keep putting it off. A 9/10 rating means the audience agrees.
The world-building is meticulous, but it's the characters who carry Cowboy Bebop through the more ambitious episodes. In 2071, roughly fifty years after an accident with a hyperspace gateway made the Earth almost uninhabitable, humanity has colonized most of the rocky planets and moons of the Solar System. Amid a rising crime rate, the Inter Solar System Police (ISSP) set up a legalized contract system, in which registered bounty hunters, also referred to as "Cowboys", chase criminals and bring them in alive in return for a reward. Koichi Yamadera and Unsho Ishizuka lead a cast that brings real weight to the material. It aired in 1998β1999.
Perfect for late-night viewing or a proper weekend binge. The kind of show that makes you feel the absence when it ends.
