Japanese television has a knack for doing more with less, and One-Punch Man is a prime example. It's currently available in Australia on Netflix and Netflix Standard with Ads, and in the US on Hulu, so there's no reason to keep putting it off. An 8/10 rating means the audience agrees.
Japanese production values give One-Punch Man a feel distinct from American and international alternatives. Saitama is a hero who only became a hero for fun. After three years of “special” training, though, he’s become so strong that he’s practically invincible. In fact, he’s too strong—even his mightiest opponents are taken out with a single punch, and it turns out that being devastatingly powerful is actually kind of a bore. Makoto Furukawa and Kaito Ishikawa lead a cast that brings real weight to the material. The series ran for 3 seasons (2015–2025), building a story that gave its audience time to invest properly.
Ideal for when you want something light without wanting something stupid. One-Punch Man respects its audience — rarer than it should be.
