Japanese television has a knack for doing more with less, and Plastic Memories is a prime example. It's currently available in Australia on Crunchyroll Amazon Channel, and in the US on Crunchyroll and Crunchyroll Amazon Channel, so there's no reason to keep putting it off. An 8/10 rating means the audience agrees.
The world-building is meticulous, but it's the characters who carry Plastic Memories through the more ambitious episodes. After failing his college entrance exams, 18 year-old Tsukasa Mizugaki is offered a position at the renowned SAI Corporation, known for its production and management of Giftia, androids that possess human emotions. Tsukasa’s position is in the terminal service department where the main job is to recover Giftias that are close to their expiration, a graveyard department in every sense. To make matters worse, Tsukasa is ordered to work with Isla, a female Giftia who is never given any responsibility other than serving tea to co-workers. Yasuaki Takumi and Sora Amamiya lead a cast that brings real weight to the material. It aired in 2015.
Perfect for late-night viewing or a proper weekend binge. The kind of show that makes you feel the absence when it ends.
