Japanese television has a knack for doing more with less, and Prison School is a prime example. It's currently available in Australia on Crunchyroll and Crunchyroll Amazon Channel, and in the US on Crunchyroll and Crunchyroll Amazon Channel, so there's no reason to keep putting it off. An 8/10 rating means the audience agrees.

Sharp writing and a well-matched ensemble are what separate Prison School from the crowd. There was a time when the Hachimitsu Private Academy was a revered and elite all-girls' boarding school on the outskirts of Tokyo but a recent policy revision is allowing boys into the student body. On his first day, Kiyoshi Fujino discovers that he's one of only five boys enrolled at the school. Completely overwhelmed by the thousands of girls on campus, the few boys find that their situation is less than ideal. Hiroshi Kamiya and Daisuke Namikawa lead a cast that brings real weight to the material. It aired in 2015.

Ideal for when you want something light without wanting something stupid. Prison School respects its audience — rarer than it should be.
