Run with the Wind has the visual identity that makes it immediately recognisable, and the writing to back it up. Kakeru, a former elite runner at high school, is chased for stealing food. He is saved by Kansei University student Haiji, who is also a runner. Haiji persuades Kakeru to live in the old apartment "Chikuseisou" where he plans to team up with fellow residents to enter Hakone Ekiden Marathon, one of the most prominent university races in Japan. Takeo Otsuka and Toshiyuki Toyonaga lead a cast that brings real weight to the material. It aired in 2018–2019.

Animation fans will appreciate the craft, but Run with the Wind works equally well for viewers who don't typically seek out animated series — fans of Nicholas Nickleby will feel at home. The medium is secondary to the quality.
