British television has a knack for doing more with less, and The Prisoner is a prime example. It's currently available in the US on Amazon Prime Video and fuboTV, and in the UK on ITVX Premium, so there's no reason to keep putting it off. An 8/10 rating means the audience agrees.

A classic from before the prestige-TV era, The Prisoner follows a path that stands out in a crowded field. After resigning, a secret agent is abducted and taken to what looks like an idyllic village, but is really a bizarre Kafkaesque prison. His warders demand information. He gives them nothing, but only tries to escape. Patrick McGoohan and Angelo Muscat lead a cast that brings real weight to the material. It aired in 1967–1968.

Perfect for viewers who think they've already seen all the great crime dramas. The Prisoner is the one that tends to prove them wrong.
