The series was created by Roy Winsor, who also created the long-running soap operas Search for Tomorrow and Love of Life. Gloria Monty of General Hospital fame was a longtime director of the series. Marla Adams and Jada Rowland lead a cast that brings real weight to the material. The series ran for 20 seasons (1954–1974), building a story that gave its audience time to invest properly.
