Tomorrow's Joe has built a reputation that precedes it, and right now it's all available in Australia on Crunchyroll Amazon Channel, and in the US on Amazon Prime Video and Crunchyroll. Teruhiko Aoi leads a cast that brings something genuine to every episode.

A classic from before the prestige-TV era, Tomorrow's Joe follows a path that stands out in a crowded field. A young drifter named Joe Yabuki wanders through the slums of Tokyo, but when the local ruffians try to give him a hard time he teaches them a rough lesson with his fists. The spectacle sparks a gleam in the eye of an old drunk who happens to be watching—Danpei Tange, a failed boxer and former coach who sees something special in the boy. He pleads with Joe to train with him off, but the cocky young fighter brushes him. Teruhiko Aoi and Fuyumi Shiraishi lead a cast that brings real weight to the material. The series ran for 2 seasons (1970–1981), building a story that gave its audience time to invest properly.

Animation fans will appreciate the craft, but Tomorrow's Joe works equally well for viewers who don't typically seek out animated series — fans of The Adventures of the Little Prince will feel at home. The medium is secondary to the quality.
