Originally commissioned by tvk, True Tears quickly became exactly the kind of show that viewers rearrange their evenings for. Shinichiro is a student living in what would be a dream come true for most high school boys, but for him is mostly a frustration. A well liked girl in school named Hiromi has lived in his house for a year along with his family. Her father was a close friend of the family, and when he died they immediately took her in. It aired in 2008.

Animation fans will appreciate the craft, but True Tears works equally well for viewers who don't typically seek out animated series — fans of KJ File will feel at home. The medium is secondary to the quality.
