From the era when television started taking itself seriously as an art form, WordGirl follows a path that stands out in a crowded field. Disguised as mild-mannered fifth-grader Becky Botsford, WordGirl arrived on Earth when she and her monkey sidekick Captain Huggy Face crashed their spaceship. Now they fight crime and defend the town from a plethora of madcap villains and scoundrels, while at the same time enriching viewers' vocabulary usage. H. Jon Benjamin and Jack D. Ferraiolo lead a cast that brings real weight to the material. The series ran for 8 seasons (2007–2015), building a story that gave its audience time to invest properly.
Animation fans will appreciate the craft, but WordGirl works equally well for viewers who don't typically seek out animated series — fans of Ultraman Taiga will feel at home. The medium is secondary to the quality.
