The world-building is meticulous, but it's the characters who carry X-Men through the more ambitious episodes. The X-Men are an elite team of mutants, genetically gifted human beings with superpowers, sworn to fight for mutant rights against hostile Government agencies, whilst at the same time protecting mankind from mutant supremacist Magneto who seeks to destroy the human race in return for the atrocities committed against mutant kind. Cedric Smith and Norm Spencer lead a cast that brings real weight to the material. The series ran for 5 seasons (1992–1997), building a story that gave its audience time to invest properly.

Satisfying on multiple levels — something to enjoy on screen and something to think about after.
