Unfortunately, James' plans come to a screeching halt when his parents announce that they are unable to subsidize his trip. Forced to take a job at the local amusement park, James prepares for the worst summer ever, until he finds love with a captivating co-worker named Em. Jesse Eisenberg and Kristen Stewart lead a cast that brings real weight to the material. It was released in 2009. Adventureland earns its laughs from character rather than situation, which is why it does not wear thin the way pure farce tends to. There is real craft here, even in the moments that do not fully land.

If you need a comedy that actually makes you laugh, Adventureland is a strong candidate. It has built its own audience without needing a direct comparison.
