BlacKkKlansman does what great comedies rarely manage — it is actually funny, consistently, across the whole run. Colorado Springs, late 1970s. Ron Stallworth, an African American police officer, and Flip Zimmerman, his Jewish colleague, run an undercover operation to infiltrate the Ku Klux Klan. Between them, John David Washington and Adam Driver carry the comedy without ever forcing it. It hit screens in 2018. BlacKkKlansman earns its laughs from character rather than situation, which is why it does not wear thin the way pure farce tends to. It knows exactly what it is, and does not try to be anything else.
