Bound by Honor is not trying to be everything to everyone, and that focus is exactly what makes it work. It opens in 1972, as the three are members of an East L.A. Gang known as the "Vatos Locos", and the story focuses on how a violent crime and the influence of narcotics alter their lives. Damian Chapa and Jesse Borrego lead a cast that never lets the mystery feel thin. It was released in 1993. What makes Bound by Honor hold up is that the resolution matters less than how the characters get there. The hit rate here is high enough that skipping ahead never feels like an option.
