Yet something ugly is taking place behind the town’s peaceful facade. And when Freddy uncovers a massive, deadly conspiracy among these local residents, he is forced to take action and make a dangerous choice between protecting his idols and upholding the law. Sylvester Stallone and Harvey Keitel lead a cast that brings real weight to the material. It was released in 1997. What makes Cop Land hold up is that the resolution matters less than how the characters get there. There is real craft here, even in the moments that do not fully land.
