As night falls, people start to disappear and things not quite human start to appear. Paul is pursued by the entire town. Ezra Godden and Francisco Rabal lead a cast that keeps the bigger ideas grounded in something human. Dagon came out in 2001. The world-building is meticulous enough to sustain multiple rewatches, with details early on that only make sense later. It knows exactly what it is, and does not try to be anything else.
