Dragged Across Concrete has quietly become one of the more dependable crime dramas currently available in Australia on Stan, and in the US on Amazon Prime Video and Fawesome. It says what it needs to say in one sitting, no filler. A 7/10 rating says what the writing already makes obvious: this one works. Mel Gibson leads a cast that carries the story without ever feeling mechanical. Start it on Stan whenever you need something guaranteed to land.
Part of the current wave of titles people are actually watching, Dragged Across Concrete earns its spot. At its heart, Dragged Across Concrete understands what makes crime drama work — character first, plot second. Two policemen, one an old-timer, the other his volatile younger partner, find themselves suspended when a video of their strong-arm tactics becomes the media's cause du jour. Low on cash and with no other options, these two embittered soldiers descend into the criminal underworld to gain their just due, but instead find far more than they wanted awaiting them in the shadows. Mel Gibson and Vince Vaughn lead a cast that gives the tension real weight. It was released in 2019. The plot mechanics of Dragged Across Concrete never overwhelm the human cost underneath them. There is real craft here, even in the moments that do not fully land.
If you cannot walk away from a good mystery, Dragged Across Concrete will keep you hooked. It does not lean on comparisons to make its case. Short enough to finish in one sitting, substantial enough to feel satisfying. Mel Gibson anchors it, but the writing does the real work. If you are going to commit to one crime drama this month, make it this one.
