After his long-time girlfriend dumps him, a thirty-year-old record store owner seeks to understand why he is unlucky in love while recounting his "top five breakups of all time". Between them, John Cusack and Iben Hjejle carry the comedy without ever forcing it. It hit screens in 2000. The timing in High Fidelity is precise enough that even the throwaway lines land on a second watch. It delivers reliably on what it promises, which is more than most of its competition manages.
