After years of homeschooling, he enters public school for the first time, eager to make friends and live like any other kid—only to discover that growing up too fast means learning some of life’s hardest lessons early. The chemistry Robin Williams and Diane Lane bring to it does a lot of the heavy lifting. It was released in 1996. What keeps Jack from feeling disposable is a cast that clearly understands the material better than the format usually demands. It knows exactly what it is, and does not try to be anything else.
