Killshot has quietly become one of the more dependable crime dramas currently available in Australia on Lionsgate+ Amazon Channels, and in the US on Amazon Prime Video and YouTube TV. It says what it needs to say in one sitting, no filler. A 6/10 rating says what the writing already makes obvious: this one works. Mickey Rourke anchors it, but the writing does the real work. Put it on tonight on Lionsgate+ Amazon Channels and see for yourself.
Whatever else is competing for your attention this week, Killshot is worth clearing space for. Killshot treats its mystery as a means, not an end in itself. Beautiful Carmen Colson and her ironworker husband Wayne are placed in the Federal Witness Protection program after witnessing an "incident". Thinking they are at last safe, they are targeted by an experienced hit man and a psychopathic young upstart killer. Mickey Rourke and Diane Lane lead a cast that brings real weight to the material. It was released in 2008. What makes Killshot hold up is that the resolution matters less than how the characters get there. It knows exactly what it is, and does not try to be anything else.
Crime and mystery fans will find exactly what they are after in Killshot. It stands on its own even without an obvious comparison point. Short enough to finish in one sitting, substantial enough to feel satisfying. Mickey Rourke carries scenes that would sink a lesser production. The resolution feels inevitable rather than arbitrary, which is rarer than it sounds.
