Look Away

Look Away is currently streaming in Australia on Amazon Prime Video, and in the US on Amazon Prime Video and Hoopla, and it earns its premise rather than just borrowing genre trappings. It says what it needs to say in one sitting, no filler. A 7/10 rating says what the writing already makes obvious: this one works. India Eisley's performance is the anchor the more ambitious scenes need. There is no real reason to keep putting it off — it is right there on Amazon Prime Video.

Look Away is not trying to be everything to everyone, and that focus is exactly what makes it work. The world-building is meticulous, but it is the characters who carry Look Away through its more ambitious moments. A timid and socially alienated 17-year-old high school student's life is turned upside down when she switches places with her sinister mirror image. India Eisley and Jason Isaacs lead a cast that brings real weight to the material. It was released in 2018. The rules of Look Away's world are consistent enough that the big swings never feel like cheating. It knows exactly what it is, and does not try to be anything else.

Sci-fi fans who want ideas alongside the spectacle will find Look Away genuinely rewarding. If you have run out of similar titles to watch, this is a strong next pick.
