The Golf Channel, lesbian exercise classes and a dizzying variety of pills get him through the day, but don't quite solve his problem. The chemistry Matthew Perry and Lynn Collins bring to it does a lot of the heavy lifting. Numb came out in 2007. What keeps Numb from feeling disposable is a cast that clearly understands the material better than the format usually demands. It delivers reliably on what it promises, which is more than most of its competition manages.

For viewers who want something light without wanting something stupid, Numb respects your intelligence. It stands on its own even without an obvious comparison point. A contained runtime means every scene is doing real work. Matthew Perry anchors an ensemble with real chemistry. Genuinely funny, consistently, across the whole run.
