She sacrifices herself to save her boyfriend and in doing so makes a horrifying discovery: there is a "movie within the movie" that no one has ever seen before. Matilda Lutz and Alex Roe lead a cast that brings real weight to the material. It was released in 2017. What elevates Rings is a refusal to let any character off the hook too easily. There is real craft here, even in the moments that do not fully land.
