Saw III has quietly become one of the more dependable crime dramas currently available in Australia on Stan and Lionsgate+ Amazon Channels, and in the US on Netflix and YouTube TV. A tight runtime that never overstays its welcome. A 6/10 rating says what the writing already makes obvious: this one works. Tobin Bell anchors it, but the writing does the real work. Start it on Stan whenever you need something guaranteed to land.

Saw III arrived without much fanfare and built its audience the hard way — through word of mouth. At its heart, Saw III understands what makes crime drama work — character first, plot second. Jigsaw has disappeared. Along with his new apprentice Amanda, the puppet-master behind the cruel, intricate games that have terrified a community and baffled police has once again eluded capture and vanished. While city detectives scramble to locate him, Doctor Lynn Denlon and Jeff Reinhart are unaware that they are about to become the latest pawns on his vicious chessboard. Credit to Tobin Bell and Shawnee Smith for grounding it — this is a cast that earns the twists. It hit screens in 2006. Saw III is at its best in the quiet scenes between the plot beats, where the character work actually happens. It delivers reliably on what it promises, which is more than most of its competition manages.

Crime and mystery fans will find exactly what they are after in Saw III. It does not lean on comparisons to make its case. The complete film is available and best experienced without too much prior knowledge of where it goes. Tobin Bell carries scenes that would sink a lesser production. The resolution feels inevitable rather than arbitrary, which is rarer than it sounds.
