Whatever else is competing for your attention this week, Somnium is worth clearing space for. Somnium treats its concept seriously enough to follow it all the way through. Gemma moves to LA, hoping to become an actress. She takes an overnight gig at a sleep clinic that promises to make their clients’ dreams come true. But the longer she spends there, the more it becomes clear that something sinister is going on. Chloë Levine and Will Peltz lead a cast that brings real weight to the material. It was released in 2025. The world-building is meticulous enough to sustain multiple rewatches, with details early on that only make sense later. It knows exactly what it is, and does not try to be anything else.

Viewers burned by ambitious sci-fi that could not sustain its premise should give Somnium a chance. It rewards viewers regardless of what else is in their watch history. A contained runtime means every scene is doing real work. Chloë Levine anchors it with a performance that makes the more abstract moments feel personal.
