It was released in 2011. The Darkest Hour resists the temptation to explain everything, trusting the audience to sit with ambiguity. There is real craft here, even in the moments that do not fully land.

The Darkest Hour is satisfying on multiple levels — something to watch and something to think about after. It stands on its own even without an obvious comparison point. Short enough to finish in one sitting, substantial enough to feel satisfying. Emile Hirsch anchors it with a performance that makes the more abstract moments feel personal.
