Verity and Peter’s trip to the old family mansion takes a turn when the floor of their room suddenly gives way and they fall into an underground chamber where they are met by a civilization of creatures. The leader tells them that Peter's arrival was foretold as he’s the one who can use Great Clock of the Citadel to restart time and destroy the Shroud, a malevolent creature who feeds on fear itself... Sam Everingham and Alyla Browne lead a cast that brings real weight to the material. It was released in 2023. What separates The Secret Kingdom from lesser genre entertainment is a willingness to let the concept cost the characters something. It delivers reliably on what it promises, which is more than most of its competition manages.

Sci-fi fans who want ideas alongside the spectacle will find The Secret Kingdom genuinely rewarding. It stands on its own even without an obvious comparison point. Best experienced as a single, sustained watch from start to finish. Sam Everingham anchors it with a performance that makes the more abstract moments feel personal.
