Right now you can watch DC's Legends of Tomorrow Season 1 on and — and it goes further with its ideas than most genre entertainment bothers to. The show says what it needs to say in a single season, no filler. A 7/10 rating says what the writing already makes obvious: this one works. Caity Lotz anchors it with a performance that grounds the bigger ideas in something human. There is no real reason to keep putting it off.

From the creators of The Flash and Arrow comes this super hero team-up that combines characters from both shows – in addition to new heroes from the DC Comics pantheon. Caity Lotz and Victor Garber lead a cast that brings real weight to the material. It was aired in 2016. The world-building is meticulous enough to sustain multiple rewatches, with details early on that only make sense later. There is real craft here, even in the moments that do not fully land.

Viewers burned by ambitious sci-fi that could not sustain its premise should give DC's Legends of Tomorrow Season 1 a chance. It rewards viewers regardless of what else is in their watch history. Best experienced as a single, sustained watch if your schedule allows. Caity Lotz anchors it with a performance that makes the more abstract moments feel personal. If you have been burned by ambitious sci-fi before, this is the exception.
