Right now you can watch Superman in Australia on HBO Max, and in the US on Amazon Prime Video and HBO Max Amazon Channel — and it goes further with its ideas than most genre entertainment bothers to. It says what it needs to say in one sitting, no filler. A 7/10 rating says what the writing already makes obvious: this one works. David Corenswet leads a cast that never lets the concept overwhelm the characters. There is no real reason to keep putting it off — it is right there on HBO Max.

Whatever else is competing for your attention this week, Superman is worth clearing space for. Superman treats its concept seriously enough to follow it all the way through. Superman, a journalist in Metropolis, embarks on a journey to reconcile his Kryptonian heritage with his human upbringing as Clark Kent. The human element stays intact thanks to David Corenswet and Rachel Brosnahan, who anchor every scene. It hit screens in 2025. Superman resists the temptation to explain everything, trusting the audience to sit with ambiguity. It delivers reliably on what it promises, which is more than most of its competition manages.

For late-night viewing or a proper weekend binge, Superman fits the bill. It stands on its own even without an obvious comparison point. It is a manageable watch, easy to fit into a single evening. David Corenswet anchors it with a performance that makes the more abstract moments feel personal. If you have been burned by ambitious sci-fi before, this is the exception.
